Winter 2025 – Better Visibility

Earlier this month we got a message from the Swedish Transport Authority that our farm was in need of improved visibility in darkness. Based on new insights seaweed farm owners along the Swedish coast are now requested to indicate the location of the farm with lights on the marker buoys.

In order to make sure we adhere to local and national safety standards we have ordered the right marker lights and installed them as soon as the weather conditions allowed for work on the sea. Inge and Emiel went out to install the lights, with the help of our local partner that operates a flat-bed vessel for easy access to the marker buoys.

The process involved lifting the marker buoys, adding more anchoring weight and replacing the top cross by a top light on two of the buoys. The lights switch on automatically when the sun sets and have the standardized international pattern for marking areas in the ocean.

At the same time it was a great opportunity to check on the condition of the seaweed, and see how the growth was coming along. The seedlings have grown quite a bit already on the main growing lines. Although we also see some areas with less performance.

And of course, we did a check of the integrity of the whole farm by doing a full circle around it, checking all the gear and making sure everything was in the right place.
