Winter flew by and the seaweed has – in isolation out in the water – done its own work. Taking up nutrients from the water, growing slowly in early spring, creating structure in the area for local species to use as habitat and to serve as a fantastic product after harvesting.

All four founders of Swedish Seaweed – Inge, Marcel, Laurens, Emiel – were present for the first harvest of our farm. Preparations were made in the weeks prior, making sure we had the right equipment, right approach and right vessel to make the harvest as easy as possible.

In addition we had the opportunity to give an interview for the local newspaper, Kungälvs Posten about our activities and therewith also show to the wider local community what we do and what we try to achieve. Local journalist Jessica Roos Rahmquist was present and documented the first harvest of Swedish Seaweed.

Interview by Kungälv Posten with co-founder Laurens. Inge in the background preparing the next trip to the farm to get the next batch of harvest in.
The harvest came in during the morning and was for a first year a good result! The quality and taste of the product are very much up to expectations. With regards to quantity we aim to optimize in the next growing season, to enable a better harvest.

In the pictures below you can see co-founders Laurens & Emiel showcasing a sample of the seaweed harvest, pictures taken for the local newspaper and a sample of baby-seaweeds that were also part of the harvest.
